DCE 2010: The Aftermath

OMG. I gotta say, the organizers of Davao Cyber Expo 2010 really outdid themselves. Me and my friends had a blast. The tournament was epic, the Dota champions had mad skills.

Me, with the runners-up - rocking out at the losers lounge.

Team Bytes getting ready to be caught up in the maelstrom of war!

So when my team got to the tournament area, we were really psyched, checking out our competition, sizing them up - all while acting cool and nonchalant. We knew we wouldn't win, as far as Dota goes, we were obsolete. But we tried anyway. We vowed to not let it be a repeat of last year's debacle. It wasn't. It was worse. Hahaha.

Gaming. SRS BZNS

A team of kids from Tagum bested us all. My faith in the youth is now restored.
The children are indeed our future.

The unmistakable look of PWNAGE. Sorry dude.

There were almost 40 teams in the competition, from as far as Cotabato and Gensan. But we also spotted some legendary Dota players from Davao, some of whom hail from Boyztrek, our home cafe.

Blinque, where legends are born...
But we got eliminated pretty early in the competition so we did what any self-respecting guys would do to console themselves.

We checked out the chicks in cosplay.

Lester Avila, president. In a sandwich.

And then we headed out hear out the live band but it was hard since there was a huge crowd outside waiting to get in to SM's activity area.

This guy from Intel was giving away free stuff.

It seems the geeks in Davao have left the sanctuary that is their computer screens and drove en masse to the SM Activity Center. The turn-out was definitely bigger than last year. DCE is really getting better and better every year.

Some lucky dudes who won stuff.

The Davao Cyber Expo 2010, powered by SM. LOL

All in all, the event was awesome. Looking forward to next year's DCE, definitely.

DCE 2010: Gamers, cosplayers and local nerds, UNITE!

So once again, its that time of the year for the annual Davao Cyber Expo. This yearly event (which me and my friends look forward to) is a mecca for geekery, gaming and good old fun.

There definitely wasn't this many people last year.

For those of you not familiar with the DCE, think of it as a watered-down version of the aged whiskey that is San Diego Comic Con. Well, sort of.

Yes, Davao style. The DOTA tournaments are definitely original as I don't know if there are other events in the Philippines exactly like this one.

Lester Avila and his team really pulled through this year and made this 3 day event possible with the help of SM Malls and Intel and of course, Blinque Tech. You wouldn't believe the things that happen in Blinque cafe, stuff of legends.

The Intel Booth. Reminding us always of how obsolete our rigs are.

Anyway, me and my friends were all really looking forward to the DCE- Dota Competition. We never win but we participate anyway. I guess its just for the love of the game. I noticed they had some pretty nice PCs set up for the tournament, I think that says a lot about Intel. DCE is a pretty big event in Davao but they really helped get the event off the ground.

And behold, a gamer's wet dream.

Gotta do our rounds, hot chicks in cosplay await. Will blog more after the event. But first, more pictures.

Not the hot chicks I was talking about earlier but I admire their guts.

What a bunch of hooligans. Priceless. Their parents must be proud.

No wonder I look forward to this event every year. Thank you DCE for giving us 3 nerdtastic days where we can all dress up and reunite with kindred souls.

BRB. Looking for Shinigami uniform. LOL.

No, I'm serious.
